During the summer Dave and I relocated the storage room we have in the house for our lawnmower and garden tools.
We built a brand-new room in the barn which had a lot more space…
We spent days going through all of our tools and boxes of stuff…
It’s amazing how much stuff you can accumulate in a room like this over the years.
If you’ve got a garden shed or garage you use for storage you know exactly where I’m coming from…
One interesting item I found at the bottom of a toolbox was a giant red penknife…
In fact it is a Swiss army penknife.
Remember those?
I found it interesting because it reminded me of how I used to tackle Internet marketing…
The penknife is interesting because it has loads of different tools in one unit…
- Three different knifes.
- Phillips screwdriver
- Magnifying glass
- Saw blade
- Bottle opener
- Tool for getting stones out of horses hooves
On examination of the penknife it became apparent that only two items had ever been used regularly.
And that was the two knife blades…
After all how often do you need a tool to get a stone out of a horse’s hoof!
The penknife seems like a really neat idea…
But at the end of the day it properly would have been better to have a high quality knife instead…
Rather than a jack of all trades…
A few years back I fell down the rabbit hole of marketing automation…
Marketing automation is very similar to the penknife…
You end up with a whole suite of tools which can do all sorts of interesting and cool stuff…
But before you know it you’re spending all of your time connecting software programs together..
Writing code…
And what should be a seemingly simple easy task can end up taking hours…
This is one of the reasons why a few years back I closed my account with most Internet marketing products.
Such as infusionsoft..
I went back to basics….
I now only use two pieces of software regularly…
My auto responder for sending out emails…
And my shopping cart for processing payments…
That’s it!
As Elon musk says The best part is no part….
And you know what’s really interesting…
I’m actually making more money using less software tools…
And I’m not talking about the subscription cost savings…
I’m talking about money that has been processed!
However every now and again things still catch me out…
Take this weekend for example…
Dave and I were super busy cutting firewood in the valley…
We think it might be a really cold winter so are trying to get prepared…
I’m told Dave that I would not need to turn the computer on all weekend because I had automated the emails which needed to be sent out!
I had pre-written all of the emails which needed to be sent out on Saturday and Sunday for last week’s webinar I hosted with Greg Cesar…
However things did not quite go to plan!
Yesterday evening I realised that Sundays emails didn’t send out at all!
This was due to user error on my part….
I guess this is automation coming back to bite me!!
So if you didn’t catch last week’s webinar now is your chance.

This was a really interesting webinar with Greg Cesar who I’ve been friends with for over 10 years.
During his webinar he showed a really simple way to make money online.
Without having to pay for advertising or even have your own website…
I’ll be removing the replay later today.
Have a great Tuesday whatever you’re doing,
Sarah
