How to be self-sufficient

One of the things I’ve always loved about being an entrepreneur is being self-sufficient.

Not having to rely on an employer to get paid.

Ever since I was a child…

Any time I’ve earned money through one of my own businesses I’ve always felt a huge amount of satisfaction…

And yes I did have several businesses when I was at boarding school…

 – I washed cars…

– I ran a done for you homework service, being dyslexic I outsourced this to other students and made a small profit.

– I even ran a pirate TV station!!

I always liked the idea of being financially self-sufficient…

But this extends into other areas…

I also like the idea of not being reliant on anyone else for food and water or electricity.

So that’s why I’m planning on installing a huge solar installation system here in the house in France.

To be completely off grid will require quite a large system.

Rather than pay somebody else to install this for me I want to learn how this whole system works and do it myself.

So I have started studying everything I can find to do with solar power, and battery systems.

I’ve also decided that I would like to grow a lot of my own food..

Again this is something I’ve never done before….

So I have two big things to learn this year…

– Solar power off grid systems.

– Gardening and growing my own vegetables.

It can be quite overwhelming approaching a new subject…

And it can be very tempting to not implement anything and keep learning and learning and learning.

I’ve always found that the best approach to learning something is to jump right in and start the practical stuff.

So last week I started clearing an area in the garden that is going to be the vegetable patch.

I started a compost heap…

I bought some seed garlic and some seed potatoes..

I going to plant the garlic in some pots later this week…

And I’ll plant the potatoes in some very large pots at the end of next month.

As far as the solar system goes, I’m going to install a very simple small test system this summer.

Now here’s the interesting thing

Why do most people fail with Internet marketing…

Overwhelm….

There’s just so much information out there most people don’t know where to start…

And end up taking course after course after course…

Or watching tons of training videos and never actually doing anything…

In fact I found myself falling into the same trap with growing vegetables…

I must have watched 20 or 30 YouTube videos on the subject…

And then I remembered why most people fail with Internet marketing…

So I stopped watching videos…

And went out to the garden centre and bought some seed potatoes and seed garlic…

So what did I do…

I stopped learning and started implementing!

I’ll keep you updated with how the vegetable patch and the solar system are progressing later in the year.

Movies I’ve seen this week

The Laundromat
Wow what an interesting movie….

There are several different stories which run in parallel…

– A fake insurance company…

– The superrich hiding their wealth…

– The widow trying to claim on her insurance…

– And a ethical hacker revealing the truth to the world.

We both thoroughly enjoyed the film, and I definitely recommend it.

You can catch it on Netflix…
