Last week I was sitting in my office and suddenly I started smelling a burning smell!
It was the dreaded magic smoke smell from electronic equipment…
I straightaway jumped out of my seat and started looking at all of my equipment….
I checked the extension leads…
The back of my computers….
My network attached hard drive storage units…
Nothing?
And then I suddenly noticed a blue sparkling dot on the floor…
And it was buzzing….
I looked down and to my horror there was a hole in the floor and something seemed to be buzzing….
I realised something had gone terribly wrong with my electric underfloor heating matt!!
I immediately turned off the trip switch in the fuse box for the underfloor heating upstairs….
This was going to be a pain in the aaa to moove the furniture from my office and then take the carpet up!
I decided to combine this with some long-standing issues with my office…
- The floors in my office have always creaked when you walk on them, so this is something I’ve been wanting to fix for a long time…
- Fix a broken floorboard near the doorway of my office, this has been broken for several months!!
- Permanently install network cable through the wall of my office down to the network switch in the kitchen…
This is a big job as the walls in this house are over 2 metres / 6 feet thick!!
Not surprising really especially since the house was built in 1671!!
Just moving everything out of my office would be a huge job…
Especially with the number of books I have on my bookshelf!!
So I decided to do a little bit each day…
Every day I moved a few things out of my office…
It really helped…
By the weekend only had a few things left in my office to move….
It really helps when you split jobs up into small chunks like this….
This is something I like to do within my Internet marketing business…
It can take what seems like a daunting job…
I make it manageable….
As the old saying goes…
How do you eat an elephant?
One bite at a time…
I discovered that the underfloor heating Matt had been damaged because of my office chair!
It had completely cracked and broken the plastic of the underfloor heating Matt!
To be honest the heating in my office was always a bit of an overkill…
In other words my office got a bit too hot…
So I’ve installed only one heating Matt along the side wall of my office….
Well out of the way of my chair….
So hopefully it won’t break again!
Over the rest of the weekend I got the network cable installed…
It’s so nice not to have a computer network cable duct taped to the carpet and going down the stairs!!
I also fixed the floor and put the carpet back in…
I’ve also reorganised everything in my office and hooked everything back up…
It’s kind of nice starting from scratch again…
It gave me a chance to reorganise everything…
And throw out old stuff I don’t need any more….

Too Many DVD’s…
As some of you may know I’m a big movie fan…
And one of my hobbies is collecting physical media on DVD and Blu-ray…
I’ve got well over a thousand movies…
One of the things I love to do when I’m in the UK is visit charity shops…
We don’t have huge charity shops in the UK like they do in America such as goodwill…
In the UK we tend to have very small charity shops but lots of them…
Whenever I’m in the UK I always try to visit as many charity shops as I can…
It’s amazing you can pick up DVDs and Blu-ray’sfor a little as 25p!!
I still buy new DVDs and Blu-ray’s from Amazon…
But there’s nothing quite like flicking through titles when you’re in a shop..
This is something I really miss from the 1990s…
Going to record stores and browsing through their video selections!
I still buy DVDs and Blu-ray’s whenever I see in HMV in the UK…
On my last trip to the UK I must’ve picked up around 60 to 70 DVDs and Blu-ray’s….
And before anybody asks or suggests it…
Yes I do stream movies online…
But you need to remember I’m a collector, I love owning a movie collection…
All the movies which I purchase I transfer to my computer storage box…
This is called a NAS…
I then use a CMS system called Plex to organise all of my movies and TV shows…
This is a bit like having your own version of Net flix…
But with just your own stuff on it…
It’s pretty cool…
It works on my TVs in the house…
And also on my phone…
I was even able to access all of my movies and TV shows when I was in the UK!!
Must go now as I’m busy transferring some of my movies to my computer as I write this email…
Talk soon,
Sarah
By the way: tomorrow will be the last day that you can get hold of my new book commission secrets…
