It was 9:45PM New Year’s Eve …
Flames erupted on the kitchen table…..
We tried to put them but out but failed!
My mother ran to the sink to grab a tea towel and soak it in water…
Eventually the flames were out!
What happened?
This year I invited over the family to stay with Dave and I here in France to celebrate New Year…
This is the first time we’ve had everybody staying here in the guest house next door…
The schedule for New Year’s Eve was set…
- New Year’s Eve dinner
- Followed by fireworks at midnight
My sisters family have a custom of always having a meat fondue on New Year’s Eve…
Basically that’s where you have cubes of fillet stake and you have a pan of boiling oil on the table.
Then everybody puts their skewers of meat in the hot oil to cook them….
There is a small flame underneath which keeps the oil warm…
This is very similar to a small camping stove which is fuelled with pure alcohol….
We ended up having 2 fondue sets on the table….
1 for the meat
1 for the vegetarians and vegans…
About halfway through dinner one of the fondue sets started to malfunction….
Flames started whipping up around the bowl…
We try to turn it down but failed….
We even try to put it out by placing the lid on top of the flame…
But it carried on burning…
The oil was getting hotter and hotter….
In the end my mother went and got a tea towel and ran it under the tap and doused out the flame…
To be honest everybody was a bit drunk…
So it was a bit of a laugh….
But I did have my fire extinguisher to hand!
We rounded off the evening with fireworks….
And that was my 2023 New Year…
Yesterday everybody went back home…
And today is the first day that I’m back in the office…
Wow it’s been almost 4 weeks since I’ve been in the office…
But it’s been nice to have a break from things…
I’m really looking forward to 2023….
I know some great things are going to happen…
It’s weird because the economy is in bad shape…
Lots of businesses are closing….
However online sales are booming….
Now is the time to get yourself set up online to start making regular income…
I’m thinking about holding some online classes later this month…
