DIY

For a couple of months Dave and I have been trying to find a carpenter…

You see we need to put some new doors on our barn…

The old oak doors are long gone and we would like to convert one of the rooms into a storage room…

However finding tradespeople in France can be a bit of a nightmare…

They either don’t want to do the job, or they quote some ridiculous amount of money?

One of Dave’s friends told him that the guy who lives at the bottom of the road is an out of work carpenter.

Perfect we thought…

Let’s give him the job of creating the new barn doors…

After all he’s out of work and would probably appreciate a cash job…

So Dave went down to see the guy…

He seemed interested and said he would pop up to see us the next day…

We waited four weeks and he never showed up?

Sometimes if you need a job doing properly you need to do it yourself…

So that’s exactly what we decided to do….

First I went to YouTube and checked out some videos on how to build barn doors…

Then last week I went to the French DIY place and purchase some timber…

And over the weekend I created a brand-new barn door….

This is the first time I’ve ever attempted building a door…

And you know what….

It looks absolutely brilliant…

If you want to see what it looks like you can check out the photos on my Facebook profile page.

This seems to be a recurring process here in France…

And that’s why we’ve ended up doing a lot of the building work in both houses ourselves…

It’s amazing what you can learn reading books and watching YouTube videos!

And believe it or not that’s exactly how I got started with Internet marketing….

The first thing I ever did online back in 1999 was build a website…

I couldn’t afford to pay somebody to do it for me so I had to work out how to do it myself…

However it was a great lesson…

And put me on the road to Internet marketing…

Sometimes if you can learn how to do something yourself…

It becomes much easier when you employ somebody to do the job for you….

For instance if I needed to hire a contractor to do some building work…

I would know the exact process they should be following….

In other words I could keep an eye on them to make sure they weren’t doing a shoddy job….

That’s of course if I could find a contractor here in France!

Over the next couple of weeks Dave and I will be doing the final job in a holiday let house next door…

We have a barn conversion connected to the holiday let house….

And we need to lay 120 square meters (1291 square meters) of wooden flooring….

Wow just writing that down makes me nervous….

That’s a lot of work….

I’m hoping we can get it done within a week….

When it’s completed I will do a video tour and send you a link to the video….
