Disaster I pulled the wrong cable out, and it’s costing us £2,000 an hour!!
That’s what once happened to me back in the 1990s…
Back then I worked for a video transfer house in Soho, London.
Basically what we did was transfer broadcast videotapes from one format to another…
The facility was deep underground and had racks and racks of multi-million pound equipment.
Apparently the equipment had been built up slowly over time…
And the cabling had also been added to and added to without much planning…
It got to a point where no one really knew where any of the cables went…
There was only one guy who worked at the company knew where most of the cables went….
And when things went wrong it was a nightmare…
The photo below was an example of how the back of the equipment racks looked…
This is what it should have looked like!
So when things went wrong it was always a mad scramble to try and get things working again…
And the worst part was it could never be changed..
Why?
Because to rewire the equipment would take weeks…
And the company was too busy…
Here’s the weird thing…
For the last several years I’ve been in a similar situation with my Internet marketing business…
Basically I got entangled with marketing automation…
You see at heart I’m a techie…
I love technology…
So that’s why I love marketing automation…
Or behavioural marketing…
That’s why I use Infusionsoft, although they have recently renamed it to “Keap” ????
Now Infusionsoft is an amazing tool…
In fact it’s probably the best in the industry for what it does…
However it’s very easy to go down the rabbit hole of automation…
Before you know it your spending over $1000 a month on tools and software…
And like the video production company, when things go wrong it’s a bit of a nightmare…
Oh yes and guess what, I’m the only one in the company who really knows how everything works!!
Sometimes it’s best to have less features, and keep things simple….
Elon Musk is famous for saying, The Best Part Is No Part…
And Apple does the same, they remove unnecessary things from their products…
Like the headphone jacks on their phones…
So this is something I’m taking a long hard look at myself with my business…
Obviously it’s not something I can do overnight…
But I’ve already started to formulate a plan…

This week I watched a great movie on Net flix called I Care A Lot…
This is a movie about a con woman who gets people put into care and then drains their bank accounts..
All completely legally!!
I thought it was a great movie because it was full of surprises…
I kept thinking, I know exactly how this is going to end…
Well guess what it took a complete right turn!!
A very enjoyable movie, I will definitely be adding this one to my collection!!
